Harford runners preparing for upcoming UCBAC championships

Harford cross-country teams began final preparations Tuesday for next week's conference championships by running the final tri and quad meets of the season.

The Edgewood boys won again, scoring 19 points to outrun host Rising Sun, Aberdeen, and North East. Michael Dzambasow led the pack in 17:29 (5K) to finish 8 seconds ahead of Aberdeen's Billy Morris. The Rams took the next four places with Dan Gorski running 18:01; Sam Verk, 18:50; Langston Gash, 18:52; and David Dzambasow, 18:54. Rising Sun took the next four places to finish second.

North East's Kaitlyn Henderson won the girls' race in 21:59, beating Autumn Russell of Rising Sun by 41 seconds. Edgewood's Rachel Goldsborough took third in 22:51 and Tiffany Weimer, tenth in 26:05. Aberdeen's Jordan Bryant placed fifth in 24:37.

Fleming, Anderson Lead Wright

Abby Fleming led a 1-2-3 finish for C. Milton Wright as the Mustangs outran Elkton, Perryville, and Joppatowne on their home course Tuesday.

Fleming clocked 18:53 over a 2.9-mile course, leading teammates Miriam Silton, 19:01, and Kelley O'Neill, 19:18. Elkton's Lena Muldoon broke up a Wright sweep in fourth place, 19:31, but the Mustangs took the next four places with Emma Martin, 19:52; Pam Koga, 19:53; Taylor Walker, 19:59; and Becca Palmer, 20:04, to win with 15 points.

In the boys' race, Max Anderson won easily in 15:16, finishing 26 seconds ahead of Perryville's Adam Thornton. Brad Ensor was third for the hosts in 15:57. Wright won with 23 points with all seven scorers in the top 10: Eric Jagde, 16:21; James Natoli, 16:36; Ian Ziemski, 16:59; Devin Defrieze, 17:09; and Jared Gill, 17:10.

Perryville was second and Elkton third. The Elks' Zaavan Renenske was fourth in 16:20 and Seth Martinez, seventh in 16:52.

North Harford Cruises

North Harford hosted its final triangular meet of the season Tuesday, cruising to a win with 15 points in both the boys' and girls' races.

Nick Fransham finished almost a quarter mile ahead of the boys' field. He ran 16:34 in leading a seven-place Hawk sweep with Calen Dowley, 17:50; Ian Fiser, 18:09; Justin Asch, 18:09; Patrick O'Leary, 18:14; Travis Hodge, 18:49; and George Schiminger, 18:49.

Patterson Mill's Austin Cantrell placed eighth in 19:58, followed by Fallston's Dylan Heil, 19:59, and Frankie Lopez, 20:01.

Megan Tidey won the girls' race easily, completing the 3-mile course in 20:42. The Hawks took the next four places with Regan Davis, 21:26; Valerie Taylor, 22:02; Ellen Shephard, 22:09; and Danielle Hurley, 22:38.

Fallston's Kellie McCreesh placed sixth in 22:44, ahead of three North Harford runners: Morgan DiGiorgio, 22:46; Laura Drapinski, 23:22; and Camille Schiminger, 23:24. Caroline Scranton, 23:28, and Emma Freeman, 23:31, took the next two places for Fallston.

John Carroll Girls Win

Though short-handed, the John Carroll girls team outran Notre Dame Prep and St. Mary's Wednesday.

The Patriots finished 1-2-3 with Kristen Kohles winning in 20:23. Amanda Spaeth finished second in 21:15; Adria Pirozzi, third in 21:21; Holly Driver, sixth in 22:05; and Faith Ensor, eighth in 22:23.

Though two of the top five, Alex Gromacki and Ellie Marindin, were absent from the lineup, the Patriots beat Notre Dame Prep, 19-37, and St. Mary's, 16-42.
