If there is one thing you can count on after Tuesday night, it's that the 2013 MPSSAA Boys Soccer State Semifinals will not lack for representation by Harford County teams.
Over the course of afternoon and evening, Fallston, C. Milton Wright and Havre de Grace squared off in their respective regional championship games, and all three came away with victories.
With the wins, all three will move to the state tournament on Saturday.
Fallston clobbers North Caroline
If the Fallston Cougars had an ounce of mercy, they certainly did not show it on Tuesday night, as they put a 13-2 shellacking on visiting North Caroline in the Class 2A East regional championship matchup.
With the win, Fallston moves on to play the 2A West champ South Carroll in the state semifinal round at Bel Air on Saturday. The starting time for that game has not yet been determined.
Kicking off Fallston's goal-scoring bonanza was Sam Boyd, who notched a goal just two minutes after the starting whistle.
Ryan Buckler scored in the 16th minute to give Fallston a 2-0 advantage, and six minutes later Chris Grant found the North Caroline net to give his team a three-goal cushion.
Fallston's Joe Otenasek scored his first goal of the evening at the 28-minute mark and, shortly thereafter, the Cougars were awarded a penalty kick, which Ben Smith converted to put the hosts up, 5-0.
Cooper Andrus netted a goal for the Cougars 30 minutes into the game, and his tally was followed by North Caroline's only two scores of the evening.
Before the first half ended, Fallston's Jordan Greenwood put away a goal, giving the Cougars a 7-2 advantage heading into the intermission.
Just as he had kicked off the first half with a goal, Boyd did so again in the second half, this time heading the ball in following a cross from Jordan Puglisi.
Otenasek scored his second goal of the night to put Fallston up, 9-2, and Owen West followed with back-to-back tallies that extended the advantage to 11-2.
Ben Word scored the Cougars' 12th goal of the evening, and Curtis Kassin closed out the offensive parade late in the second half with the game's final tally.
CMW over Towson
Playing on the road Tuesday afternoon the 3A North regional title game, the C. Milton Wright Mustangs earned the crown with a 5-0 blanking of host Towson.
The victory propelled CMW to the state semifinal round, where the Mustangs will play 3A South champ Northern Calvert at the Community College of Baltimore County, Essex on Saturday. That contest's starting time has not been announced.
Kyle Thomas led the CMW offense in Tuesday's victory, scoring a team-best two goals.
Havre de Grace headed to states
The Havre de Grace Warriors stamped their ticket to the state tournament on Tuesday, defeating visiting Friendship Academy, 3-1, in the 1A South regional championship matchup.
In the 1A state semifinals on Saturday, the Warriors will face off with the 1A North champs from Pikesville at North County High School. The starting time for that game has not been announced.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
