Woman sexually assaulted near Gunpowder Falls early in the morning

A woman told police she was sexually assaulted in the woods near Little Gunpowder Falls early Friday morning, the Harford County Sheriff's Office reported.

The 36-year-old female said she was assaulted at 4 a.m. in a wooded area near the Harford County line, Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Cristie Kahler said.

The only description spokesman Edward Hopkins would provide is that it was on the "Harford County side of the Little Gunpowder in a marshy area not far of Rt. 40/ Pulaski Highway."

He said the investigation division has not authorized releasing any more information.

Kahler said the victim provided "basic information" about her attacker.

She was treated at Franklin Square Hospital for "minor injuries" and released.

"We are investigating if she knew the suspect or if this was a random attack," Kahler said. "Details of the attack and the suspect are also still being investigated. And because the details are still being investigated, there is nothing else being released at this time."

No more details were available.
