Winless in their last three matchups, the C. Milton Wright Mustangs scratched out a baseball victory Wednesday afternoon by dispatching host Patterson Mill, 7-4.
CMW jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the third, then the hosts countered with one run in the bottom part of the inning. The Mustangs scored once again in the fifth, then added two insurance runs in the seventh. The Huskies rallied for three in their final at-bat, but could not get any closer.
Mustang pitcher Matt Henigan earned the win, going six innings in which he struck out seven and allowed two earned runs on four hits. Ray Kimball came to the mound in the seventh and was credited with a save.
CMW's Chase DeMars was 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI, while fellow Mustang Jake Labe was 1-for-3 with a double, one run and one RBI. Colin Miller helped the winning cause with two singles, two runs and one RBI. Mick Vecchio ripped an RBI triple for the Mustangs and Pete DiNardi was 1-for-4 with one RBI in the victory.
"Matt Henigan pitched a terrific game for us today," CMW skipper Joe Stetka said. "He stopped our three-game skid. We got some timely hitting, on top of the pitching."
Patterson Mill's Zach Dorn went 1-for-4 with two RBIs, while teammate Griffin Marge was 1-for-3 with three RBIs, one walk and one steal.
With the victory, CMW improved to 3-3 overall and 2-3 in Chesapeake (upper) Division contests. Patterson Mill fell to 4-2 overall and 0-2 in Chesapeake play.
Bel Air over Fallston
In the bottom of the seventh inning of Wednesday's matchup between Bel Air and visiting Fallston (1-7 overall, 1-3 Chesapeake), the host Bobcats got a walk-off, RBI single from R.J. Rivera to take a 9-8 victory.
Ben Webber hit a double in the victory, while teammate J.D. Bruck ripped a triple (5-2 overall, 3-0 Chesapeake).
Hawks knocked off
The North Harford Hawks (5-3 overall, 1-2 Chesapeake) suffered a 4-1 road loss to Rising Sun Wednesday.
Hawk starter Nic Hammer worked through five innings, allowing four hits and striking out three.
North Harford's Josh Garcia ripped a two-out double in the fourth, and was promptly driven home for his team's only run when Scott Angstadt knocked out an RBI double.
Cobras over Warriors
The Harford Tech Cobras (6-1 overall, 4-0 Susquehanna) kept their lower-division record spotless Wednesday with a 12-2 win over the visiting Havre de Grace Warriors (0-5 overall, 0-4 Susquehanna).
Harford Tech's Devin Chapman went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple, scored three runs and drove home a team-high four RBIs. Tyler Mister was 3-for-4 with a triple and one RBI in the win, while Bryan Mason went 3-for-3 with a double and one RBI. Jeremy Brown was 2-for-3 with one RBI and Travis Hash popped out a one-RBI single. The Cobras' Kyle Zentkovich was 1-for-2 with one RBI and Justin Smith went 1-for-2.
Smith tossed a complete game for the winning side, allowing two hits, walking two and recording six strikeouts.
Havre de Grace's Eddie Hofer and Christian Glassman both went 1-for-2 in the loss.
Fallston earns first win
