The Harford County Sheriff's deputies have arrested a Baltimore man in connection with a bank robbery in Edgewood early Wednesday.
Police responding to an alarm at the Sun Trust Bank in the 1400 block of Pulaski Highway at about 4 a.m. Wednesday spotted the man, whom police identified as Edgar Saler, 50, of the 4200 block of Euclid Avenue in Baltimore, leaving a vacant business next door to the bank. Police said Saler and another man had used a key to enter the vacant building, then knocked a hole into the wall between the business and the bank. Once inside, the suspects broke into an ATM in the bank lobby and tampered with the safe, police said.
Investigators say the thieves were unsuccessful in removing any money from the ATM, sheriff's department spokeswoman Monica Worrell said.
The second man fled in a dark colored, older model Toyota. Deputies pursued the vehicle, but ended the chase when the driver reached Baltimore County. Deputies notified Baltimore County of the incident and provided a description of the car but did not release the name of the suspect.
The investigation is continuing. Saler is charged with burglary and malicious destruction and is being held at the Harford County Detention Center.
Anyone with information regarding this crime or the vehicle involved should contact Harford County Sheriff's Office Detective Andrew Lane at 410-836-5431.
