Finally finding a night without thunderstorms and rain, the Bel Air Women's Summer Lacrosse League played a another round of games Thursday at Rockfield Park's Ewing Street Field in Bel Air. The league had missed two straight nights of play because of poor weather. Those missed games have been rescheduled for July 9 and 11 with the annual tournament pushed back to the following week.
In Thursday's first game, league leading Recyclables (5-1) had little trouble with Little Miss Moonshine (2-4) in a 9-3 win. The winners led 7-1 at the half.
Paige Orpin showed the way with three goals, while Abbey Sasdelli scored twice. Gina Maranto, Alexis Susa, Susie Snee and Maddi Cypher each tallied single goals and Rileigh Cypher dished out two assists.
Moonshine scoring was provided by Kara Cornelius, Rachel Baxter and Alora Gullivan.
Recyclables played two goalies with Grace Deckert making four saves and Brittany MacKnew, a loaner from 'Murica, made five. Moonshine keeper Kaitlyn Neumeister totaled 13 saves.
In the second game, the Dark Knights (3-2-1) jumped ahead of 'Murica (1-4-1) and stayed there, earning a 15-11 win. The Knights led 8-4 at the half.
Katie Fonte tossed in five goals to pace the winners and Katie Wherley added four goals and a pair of assists. Brooke Prater added three goals and three assists, while Megan Najewicz scored two goals and Kathryn Clelland had one.
Kaylee Litke led 'Murica with three goals and one assist. Julie Doyle, Marisa Braungart and Lexi Brown each scored twice, while Alex Jones and Stephanie Cornbrooks also scored.
Abby McClure earned the win in the Dark Knights goal with three saves and MacKnew, back with her team, had a much busier game, making 15 saves.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
