5K Saturday in Towson to benefit family of Bel Air officer killed in crash

Fit Gym in Towson will host Fit! 5k For Their Future/ Family Fun 1 Mile Walk on Saturday, Sept. 21, to raise money for the Madyson and Annabel Volk College Foundation.

Madyson is the daughter of Tracy Volk, an instructor at Fit!, whose husband, Baltimore City Police Detective Shane Volk, was killed in a car accident in early July. Tracy Volk is currently 7 months pregnant with their second daughter who will be named Annabel. The Volk family lives in Bel Air.
The cost to participate is $35. Every participant receives a t-shirt and the first 400 people to register will receive a drawstring bag. Registration forms can be found online at www.fitgymusa.com or at Fit!, located atop Luskins Hill, 1125 Cromwell Bridge Road.
Pre-registration will begin at 7 a.m. on Saturday, and the race will begin at 9 a.m.

The one-mile family fun walk will begin at 9:15 a.m. At 10 a.m. there will be a tire flipping contest- the person with the most flips in 90 seconds wins.

The event will feature music by Dr. Spinn Entertainment.  LaCakerie will be on-site with their new food truck selling cupcakes with 50 percent of the proceeds going to the Volk Foundation. There will be samples and giveaways from The Big Screen Store, Bill Bateman's, EAS, Giant Food, GNC, The Greene Turtle, PowerBar, Under Armour, Vitamin Water, and Weis Grocery. WBAL, Fox 45 and WMAR are serving as media sponsors of the event.
“Tracy is a valuable staff member at our gym and we are honored to be able to support her family in some small way after the tragic loss of her husband, Detective Volk,” Fit! general manager Darlene Hein said in a news release about the event.
