Three girls headed to Southampton Middle School in Bel Air Tuesday told police they saw a man who may have been exposing himself in his car, the Harford County Sheriff's Office said.
The girls, ages 12 to 14, told the school resource officer they were walking to, or already at, bus stops at about 7 a.m. when they saw the man driving a dark green car or SUV with white license plates, Sheriff's Office spokesman Edward Hopkins said.
The driver did not approach the girls but was seen driving through the neighborhood of Churchville's Rolling Green community, where the girls are from, Hopkins said.
"One of the girls described that he looked like he was lost," Hopkins said. "As he drove by one of the girls the passenger window was down and she could see inside of the car. The suspect is alleged to have been masturbating. When the subject saw the school bus approach he left the area. It was reported that he did not approach the girls."
One of the locations the vehicle was seen was the 200 block of Finney Avenue, but it was observed in several other places, Hopkins said.
Hopkins explained the school plays no role in the incident, other than that the girls reported it to the school resource officer assigned to their school.
The man is described as white, in his thirties, with brown hair and a medium build, and wearing a baseball cap and possibly glasses. The car had tan molding and sat low to the ground.
The investigation is continuing and anyone with information is asked to contact Deputy Fire Class Lori Denbow of the Sheriff's Office School Policing Unit at 410-809-2818.
