Bel Air man charged with child sex abuse at Harford Mall

A 76-year-old Bel Air man has been charged with sexually abusing a child Monday at Harford Mall, according to a news release from Bel Air Police Department.

Grant Goodwin Peterson, of the 200 block of East Heather Road, is charged with sex abuse of a minor and third-degree sex offense. He was released Tuesday on $30,000 bail, according to Maryland electric court records.

The incident occurred at 3 p.m. Monday at Harford Mall with a victim who is "known to and accompanied Peterson to the...mall," according to the BAPD release.

No further details on the incident were immediately available from Bel Air Police. Police Chief Leo Matrangola said no police report was available as it is an "ongoing investigation."

"The charges in this case stem from incidents that occurred at the Mall and at Peterson's residence," the news release states. "The Bel Air Police Department and the Harford County Child Advocacy Center are jointly participating in the investigation."

Peterson does not have any listed previous contact with the criminal justice system, according to online court records.

Harford State's Attorney Joseph Cassilly was not available to comment Tuesday.
