Masters runners from Bel Air captured three age-group victories in the largest of Maryland's many St. Patrick's Day races, the Kelly Shamrock 5K in Baltimore Sunday.

Rob Tisch finished first among all masters runners. He ran 16:52, placing 15th overall in the field of 4,230. Mike Feinberg took first in the 50-54 age group in 17:28, placing 26th overall. Jerry Henderson won the age 45-49 competition, finishing 21 seconds ahead of the runner-up in 17:49.

Three other Harford men placed in the top 20. Alex Loper finished eighth overall in 16:27. Daniel Colopietro was ninth across the finish line in 16:38 and Shawn Loper, 18th in 16:57.

Among the women, Courtney Waldhauser took 13th place in 20:05, her best 5K time of the last three years.

Placing in the top three of the age groups were Colin Mosley of Bel Air, first in 11-15 in 18:59; Janet McAdorey, Bel Air, second in 55-59 in 22:45; Maurizio Illiano, Fallston, third in 40-44 in 18:17; Joe Bonsiero, Joppatowne, third in 65-69 in 25:11; Olivia Ebey, Jarrettsville, third in 11-15 in 23:19; and Cheryl Jones, Fallston, third in 60-64 in 31:05.

ShamRock 'n Roll 5K

Mary Denholm led the women and Rob Flynn, the men in the Shamrock 'n Roll 5K at the Arena Club in Bel Air Saturday.

Denholm, 26, of Monkton, finished second overall among 159 runners. She passed through the finish arch in 18:54 with a 200-meter lead over the runner-up. Jessica Rogers, 14, of Bel Air, bettered 20 minutes for the first time in finishing second in 19:42.

Others in the women's top 10 were Meredith Kefauver Olsen, 20:35; Jennifer Bouffard, 20:55; Lori Wilson, 22:22; Kimberly Roberts, 23:56; Alicea Fitzpatrick, 24:02; Nancy Hill, 24:15; Moriah Greene, 24:45; and Courtney Boseck, 24:57.

Flynn, a John Carroll sophomore from Havre de Grace, won the men's race by about 100 meters despite a missed turn that cost him a few seconds. He was timed in 18:47. David Zartler, 22, of Port Deposit was second in 19:08, and Casey Sims, a Bel Air High School runner, was third in 19:27.

Also in the men's top 10 were Bryan Cage, 19:43; Michael Imbierowicz, 20:46; Mitch Hopkins, 20:51; Earl Brownell, 20:55; Mark Unger, 20:55; Greg Chrest, 21:07; and Anthony Miller, 21:59.

In races elsewhere

Elizabeth Tauber of Bel Air won the 3,000-meter run in the Coastal Carolina Invitational outdoor track meet Saturday in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Towson University junior led by 12 seconds at the finish in 10:18.16.

Nicole Wohlfort, 16, of Fallston, was the runner-up among the women in the St. Patty's Day 5K in Ocean City Saturday. She ran 20:47 to finish 5 seconds behind the winner. Kirk Ingold of Bel Air took third in 45-49 and ninth among the 923 finishers in 20:00. Mike Trott of Joppa placed fourth in 60-64 in 25:08.

Trott won the men's 60-64 age group in the Shamrock Shuffle 15K in Rehoboth Beach on Sunday in 1:15:28. Joe Stevenson of Bel Air placed third in 65-69 in 1:24:11.

In the Shamrock Festival half marathon in Virginia Beach, Megan Hairfield of Abingdon placed fourth in the 25-29 age group in 1:28:21. Brother-in-law Patrick Hairfield ran 1:20:26 to finish seventh in men's 20-24. About 15,000 runners competed in the three races of the festival.

Esther Buchser of Abingdon placed third in the 65-69 age group of the Rock 'n' Roll USA Half Marathon, which drew 16,758 runners, including 70 from Harford County, to Washington, D.C., Saturday. She clocked 2:02:15.

Harford finishers in the 26.2-mile Rock 'n' Roll USA Marathon were Zach Reichenbach, 3:24:05; Stacy Ward, 3:30:57; Ben Battaglia, 3:42:44; Holly Battaglia, 3:56:59; Amee LaBonte, 3:59:34; Soulby Jackson, 4:04:09; Shawn Foltz, 4:16:11; Jennifer Tawney, 4:23:20; Amy Castillo, 4:27:41.
