Five hurt, one seriously, in early morning crash on Route 22 near Bel Air

Five teenagers were injured – one seriously – in a crash on Route 22 just east of Bel Air early Tuesday morning.

The car carrying the five males was in was headed east on Route 22 around 2 a.m. when, for some reason, swerved and went into a ditch, according to Trooper Taylor from the Maryland State Police Bel Air Barrack.

The accident happened near Tudor Lane east of Route 543.

One person in the car was trapped and subsequently flown to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. The four other males in the car were taken to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air.

Route 22 was closed briefly.

Police are investigating to determine the cause of the crash, though alcohol is not suspected, Taylor said.
