The Phoenix Festival Theater will be presenting "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" June 7-15 at the Chesapeake Theater at Harford Community College.
Show times are at 8 p.m. June 7, 8, 14, and 15 with 3 p.m. performances also planned June 9 and 15.
Directed by Laurie Starkey, the play is based on a book by Rachel Sheinkin, with lyrics and music by William Fin.
A musical comedy with a theme related to overachievers' angst, "Spelling Bee" showcases the experiences of six adolescent outsiders on the throes of puberty, trying for the spelling championship of a lifetime. Audience participation adds to the show as the young characters learn that winning doesn't necessarily make you a loser. The show does feature some mature themes.
The show is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International.
Tickets can be purchased on line at tickets.harford.edu or at the Chesapeake Theater; tickets for adults cost $20; for those 17 and younger, the price is $10, an it is also $10 for senior citizen and HCC student tickets.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
