Harford County Public Library has been designated a U.S. Department of State Passport Acceptance Facility and opened a passport office at the Bel Air Library.
On the mezzanine level, the office offers services such as passport book and card application acceptance, passport photographs, extra visa pages, expedited service and renewal services. Hours for the passport office are Monday through Thursday, 3 to 7 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. No appointment is necessary and pagers are provided if there is a wait.
The library is celebrating the opening of its passport office with an exhibition of familiar and unique travel posters, plus souvenirs from local residents called "Beyond Your Borders: Collecting Travel Posters and Souvenirs." Using the lens of travel images and inexpensive mementos, the display is about the way advertising comments on our society, the arts and emotions. History has rarely been so beautifully recorded – or so kitschy. The exhibition is outside the passport office and can be seen through January during regular library hours.
