Accident, rescue reported at busy Bel Air intersection Wednesday morning

Emergency medical and rescue crews were called to a busy Bel Air intersection for an accident Wednesday morning involving two vehicles.

The initial call for an accident with rescue at Route 24 and Marketplace Drive was dispatched at 9:05 a.m., according to a monitored Harford County emergency radio broadcast.

The Harford Fire and EMS Association reported on its media Facebook Page that one of the vehicles involved had overturned and someone was trapped.

Two medical units were requested from the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company, according to the monitored broadcasts.

A Bel Air Police Department officer at the scene said a white Nissan SUV was heading south on Route 24 and ran the red light at Marketplace Drive. The SUV was hit by a yellow passenger car heading east, crossing Route 24 from the Home Depot side to the Target side. The SUV rolled over several times before coming to a rest in the middle of the southbound lanes.

The driver of the SUV was taken to Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, and the driver of the passenger car was taken to nearby Upper Chesapeake Medical Center.

Police said neither driver appeared to be seriously hurt.
