Processing and execution fees will be collected at the Bel Air library branch's passport office, the Harford County Public Library Board of Trustees voted last week.
No one had any comment during a public hearing to discuss the fees during the board's regular monthly meeting on Nov. 21, held at the Bel Air Library.
Passport applicants will be required to pay both a passport processing fee by check or money order to the U.S. Department of State Passport Facility, plus an execution fee via check to the library.
At the branch, passport cards cost $15 for applicants 15 years old and younger and $30 for the age of 16 or order. Passport books cost $80 for applicants 15 and younger and $110 for applicants 16 and older. Each option will also require a $25 execution fee.
"We based our fees alongside other models at local libraries like the ones in Howard County and post offices," Mary Hastler, executive director of the Harford County Public Library, said.
The passport office is on the branch's mezzanine level and offers a slew of services, such as passport photos, extra visa pages, expedite services and renewal services.
To provide a greater convenience to the community, the passport office is open hours other passport offices are closed, Hastler said.
Passport services are available Monday through Thursday, 3 to 7 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. No appointment is necessary.A feasibility study conducted in 2009 deemed the building "undersize" for its visitors and circulation numbers, Hastler said, and the library set out on a mission to expand the branch.
The library anticipates 30 percent of the construction documents will be complete by January 2014, Hastler said in her director's report. She said the library hopes to have a 100 percent bid set complete by May 2014.
During construction, Hastler said a mobile library branch will be constructed somewhere near the current site to continue to provide library services to the community.
