HCC athletes receive postseason honors

Two Harford Community College fall sports athletes were recently honored with postseason accolades.

Harford volleyball freshman Lexie Roberts (Lexington, S.C.) capped her amazing rookie campaign with the conference's top honor. The outside hitter was the top vote-getter on the First-Team All-MD JUCO list, as announced by the conference office Saturday.

Roberts, who led the Fighting Owls to their greatest season in program history, finished second in the MD JUCO with 381 kills and 4.14 kills per set while leading the way with 77 service aces. Her .248 hitting percentage led the team and ranked eighth in the conference.

Roberts' season totals also ranked among the national leaders. Her 4.14 kills per set ranked second nationally, while her 77 service aces ranked third and her 0.84 service aces per set was fourth. Her 381 kills was 18th among Division I players.

Sankoh is honorable mention

Harford men's soccer freshman Saidu Sankoh earned NJCAA Division I All-American status, as announced by the NJCAA national office Friday. The flashy forward landed on the honorable mention list.

Sankoh ranked second on the team and fourth in the conference with 11 goals. He was also named First-Team All-Region XX and All-MD JUCO following his freshman season.

Sankoh added three assists in the 11-win season to finish with 25 points, a total that was fourth in the MD JUCO. Sankoh tallied a goal in the final four regular season games and started the year with six goals in four games.

Sankoh is the 39th All-American in Harford history, and the first for the men's soccer program. He is the 11th Fighting Owl All-American in the last four years.
