Harford Gymnastics Level 3 Team culminated its competition season by winning the Maryland State Championships in Williamsport on April 6. Team members included Greta Basil, Maranda Howell, Rachel Kelley, Sara Kate King, Madison Koors, Gianna Piccirilli, Madison Shaffery, Savannah Tamberino and Karlee Tuohy. The team is coached by Katy Dobson, Megan Blackburn and Sara Miller.

Harford Gymnastics winning score of 112.075 was almost three points ahead of the second-place team, Cumberland's East-West Stars who scored 109.225. That is a wide margin for gymnastics competitions which are calculated in thousands of a point.

Harford's highest scoring gymnast was Madison Shaffery, who scored a 37.325 in the all-around to win the Jr. A age group. Shaffery won gold on vault (9.7) and on bars (9.25). She took silver on beam (9.375) and bronze on floor (9.0).

Harford's next highest scorer was Savannah Tamberino, who had just turned 6 years old five days before the competition. Tamberino won the Children's A division with a 36.65 all-around score. She also captured gold on vault (9.2), bars (9.7) and floor (9.55).

Two other first place champions included Madison Koors and Sara Kate King. Koors won the Children's B division in the all-around with 35.80 and also won bars (9.15). King won first on vault (9.45) and first on bars (9.30) in the Children's D division.

In the Children's B division, Greta Basil placed second on bars (9.1),third all-around (35.65), fourth on beam (8.75) and fourth on floor (8.9).

In the Children's C division Karlee Tuohy took second all-around (35.225), second on vault (9.225), second on beam (9.15), fifth on bars (8.4) and eighth on floor (8.45

In the Children's E division, Rachel Kelley was second all-around (36.15), second on floor (9.3), fifth on beam (9.0) and sixth on bars (8.85). Maranda Howell finished second on bars (9.175),seventh all-around (34.875) and eighth on beam (8.65). Gianna Piccirilli placed fifth in the all-around (35.45) and fourth on bars (9.0)

"We are so proud of our gymnasts and coaches for all their hard work this season," commented Harford Gymnastics director Teresa DiMauro. The girls will be further recognized for their accomplishments at the Harford Gymnastics end-of-the-season banquet on May 19.
