Patriots get big win
The injury-riddled John Carroll girls soccer team pulled off an impressive victory Tuesday, hosting and beating metro and nationally-ranked McDonogh, 1-0.
The game's only goal came in the final minute with senior captain Sophie Centi, who had been running the field for John Carroll all afternoon, providing the heroics. Centi came up with a ball 20 yards out, made four moves beating two McDonogh defenders and was then able to get off a rocket shot which was well out of the reach of the keeper and hit the back far-corner of the net.
Patriots keeper Katie Cooper finished with nine saves. The Patriots are 4-7-1 overall and 1-3-1 in IAAM A conference play.
