Playing in the first round of the Vernon Brown Memorial Tournament at Fallston on Thursday, the host Cougars and the Bel Air Bobcats each earned victories over local competition.
Fallston scored a 61-46 win over Edgewood, while Bel Air topped Joppatowne, 63-24.
Fallston over Edgewood
Kicking off tournament play in the White Division on Thursday afternoon, the tournament hosts from Fallston dispatched the Edgewood Rams, 61-46.
With the win, the Cougars move on to play Bel Air on Friday in the White Division final. The start time for that game has not yet been announced.
Kayla Reilly led the way for the Cougars, scoring a team-best 18 points. Logan Gasior had 14 points in the victory, and Jordan Vocke scored 10 for the Cougars.
Edgewood's Shania Stamper had a game-high 20 points, and teammate Jakia Robinson scored 10 points.
Bel air crunches Joppatowne
The Thursday White Division contest between Bel Air and Joppatowne saw the Bobcats run out to a 63-24 victory over the Mariners.
Sam Barnett helped the winning cause with 19 points, while fellow Bobcat Renie Tsomos had 12 points.
Tyshaun Creighton scored 20 points for the Mariners.
Bel Air led, 37-16, at halftime.
Aberdeen takes tourney win
The Aberdeen Eagles took a Thursday victory at Largo High School in the opening round of the IAABO Christmas Tournament, pummeling Friendly High, 58-11.
The Eagles allowed just four first-half points, and went into the intermission holding a 27-4 advantage.
Nazje Norton was the Eagles' top offensive force, scoring a game-high 24 points. Stephanie Jones added 21 points, and Lisa Eller scored eight in the victory.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
