A car caught fire Thursday night after its driver rear-ended another vehicle that was stopped at a traffic light at a Bel Air South intersection.

The driver of a Chevrolet Malibu, who was heading south on Route 24 crashed into the rear of a Toyota SUV that was sitting at the light at the intersection of Route 24 and Plumtree Road, according to Trooper Michelle Workman of the Maryland State Police Bel Air Barrack.

First responders were alerted around 7:40 p.m. Firefighters with the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company responded and extinguished the flames that consumed the Malibu.

Workman said no one was injured. She was still preparing her accident report about two hours after the accident and said she could not immediately release the names of the drivers.

Workman said she could not say "at this time" if speed or icy road conditions were a factor in the crash.
