Eight Harford County field hockey teams went to battle Thursday as region quarterfinals in the state playoffs were on tap. Of the eight, six won and were scheduled to advance to Monday's regional semifinal round, which was canceled because of Hurricane Sandy.

Leading the six, C. Milton Wright (13-1) continued its winning ways, defeating visiting Aberdeen (4-7-1), 6-1, in Class 3A North play.

Sophomore Emily Brandt opened the scoring for CMW, 56 seconds into the game with a pass from fellow sophomore Haley Matthai.

Junior Jenny Eckert scored the Mustangs second goal minutes later with a feed from sophomore Sabrina Rhodes. Emily Halley, another sophomore, added a goal and freshman Olivia Beachley scored two to close out the first half scoring. Assists came from Matthai, Elise Thrush and Maggie Gallagher.

The Mustangs final goal came early in the second half with a shot from Matthai, off an assist from Sabrina Rhodes.

CMW goalie Sydney Rhodes was credited with two saves. The Mustangs were to host North Harford on Monday. In their previous meeting played Oct. 11, CMW won 1-0 on a second half goal.

Hawks pound Patapsco

North Harford had no trouble in its 3A North game, shutting out visiting Patapsco, 16-0. The Hawks (10-3) led 7-0 at the half.

Kara Parks led the scoring with four goals, while Becca Rinaca and Sophie Crowther each had three goals. Rachel Baca added a pair of goals and single goals were tallied by Maddy Dolinar, Katie Owens, Shannon Mansberger and Haley Ensor.

The Hawks also had a few assists from Rinaca, Dolinar, Bailey Saneman and Ensor.

North Harford goalies Amanda Carter and Jess Hart both saw time, with neither making a save.

Bobcats win shutout too

Bel Air (7-6) also posted a shutout in 3A North, blanking host Parkville, 6-0. The Bobcats scored three goals in each half.

Sara Teesdale scored the first goal at 20:25 of the first half, assisted by Paige Kerr. Five minutes later, Jessica Vasquez scored, with an assist from Tori Gryglewski. Madison Healey closed the first half scoring at 10:36, assisted by Vasquez.

Teesdale added her second goal just 2:03 into the second half with another assist from Vasquez. Meghan Heeter added the next goal with an assist from Gryglewski and Macy Nitchie finalized the score, assisted by Judy Yurkofsky.

Bel Air goalie Meghan Mingioni earned the win, making two saves. The Bobcats were to play at Hereford in Monday's postponed semifinal round.

Mariners edge Cobras

Joppatowne (8-4) used a second half goal to beat visiting Harford Tech (4-7-1), 1-0, in 1A North action.

Tech had some really nice shots from cross to post in the first half, but Joppatowne goalie April Kinyua had a few diving saves to keep the game scoreless at the half.

Ashley Martinez scored Joppatowne's goal unassisted with 24 minutes left in the second half.
