Donations to The Aegis Empty Stocking Fund started to climb this week, as many people, businesses and organizations stepped forward to help their less fortunate Harford County neighbors during the holiday season.
As of Thursday morning, $63,175 has been received toward the 2012 fundraising goal of $80,000.
"The Empty Stocking Fund volunteer committee members wish to express our appreciation and thanks to each one who has had a part in supporting the fund thus far," committee member Jane Brown said. "Harford County's generosity over the years is amazing, and we thank all of you."
If you would like to help brighten the holidays for families the Fund is supporting, please send a check, for any amount, to The Aegis Empty Stocking Fund, P.O. Box 189, Bel Air, Maryland, 21014. This year, the Empty Stocking Fund will be helping 364 local families with 836 children.
More of the wonderful assortments of toys were received this past week at the Empty Stocking Fund's Santa's workshop. Among the businesses that collected toys is Madonna Country Store and Kelly's Hair Salon, on Moores Mill Road, both which have supported The Empty Stocking for the past 10 years.
The Aegis Empty Stocking Fund Committee also expressed its appreciation to the Harford County Retired School Personnel for approximately 350 new books at a total value of more than $800. "We sincerely thank you and will be sure to give each child at least one book," Brown said.
The Harford County Public Library Administrative Office and five library branches in Jarrettsville, Fallston, Joppa, Edgewood and Aberdeen donated many toys, as did Welcome One Emergency Shelter in Riverside, Brown said.
Other recent donations have been received from Saxon's Diamond Centers, $2,100; Tina and Chris Andon, $2,000; Bob and Bobbi Compton $1,000 and Shirl and Terry Grable, $1,000.
