Once again in 2012, The Aegis Empty Stocking Fund is continuing its charitable activities to make the Christmas Holiday Season happier for Harford County residents in need.
The Empty Stocking Fund accepts donations of money, new unwrapped toys and unused books.
This year's Empty Stocking Fund fund-raising goal is $80,000. As of the beginning of this week, the fund has received $20,400 in monetary donations.
All funds raised will be used for Harford County families, those who have been affected by layoffs and unemployment, others whose hours have been cut or those who are disabled and cannot work. These are the families who need help with food and gifts for the children. The fund also helps senior citizens with food.
Each Christmas season many Harford County residents are helped by the fund and the kindness and generosity of businesses, organizations and individuals who support the fund, operated by a committee of volunteers, many of whom are retired or former employees of The Aegis.
The committee said it would like to thank Klein's ShopRite Stores for including the Empty Stocking Fund in its fund-raiser, Partners In Caring Day, held Sept. 19, during which a percentage of store sales were donated to The Empty Stocking Fund. Thanks also to the elected officials and other celebrities who helped "bag for hunger," during the event. The Empty Stocking Fund netted $8,074.20.
The committee would also like to thank Sheri Keck of Forest Hill for her donation of many boxes of toys; Kiddie Academy of Forest Hill for its special toy donations and Wendy's of Hickory for having a fund-raiser evening to support the fund that raised $130.37.
Special thanks also for contributions from APGFCU's Community Involvement Committee, which gave $200.
Contributions were also received from Robert Dale Slocum, $100; Betty and Ed Miller, $200; Dan and Mary Ellen O'Neill, $100; John and Kathy Young, $100; Dr. C.J.
