Harford DPW worker critical after fall in office Friday

An employee of the Harford County Department of Public Works remained in critical condition Tuesday, several days after hitting his head in the office.

Cynthia Rivers, a spokeswoman for the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, said Mark Stancill, 53, was in critical condition.

He had been flown to shock trauma Friday after falling and hitting his head while in his office at the county's Bureau of Highways building in Hickory, Sherrie Johnson, public information officer for Harford County, said Saturday.

Johnson said Stancill's coworkers saw him stumbling and bleeding after he fell around 2 p.m., and called 911. He was flown by a Maryland State Police Medevac helicopter to shock trauma.

Johnson wrote in an e-mail Monday that his coworkers believed Stancill had had a seizure before falling and hitting his head on a desk.

Stancill lives in Kingsville and has worked for the county for six years, all with Public Works, Johnson said.
