A Bel Air man is being held without bail in the Harford County Detention Center after he allegedly carjacked and injured a woman in his neighborhood and later robbed a man at a Wawa in Bel Air, between last Friday and Monday.

Christopher Michael Montgomery, 36, of the 1800 block of Selvin Drive, is charged with robbery, second-degree assault, unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, theft between $10,000 and $100,000 in one case and with two counts of robbery and second-degree assault in the other.

On Friday, Dec. 7, Montgomery allegedly approached a woman parking her Toyota Corolla in the 1300 block of Scottsdale Drive and said: "Can I ask you a question?" When she said, "No," and started screaming, he grabbed her car keys, pushed her and ran toward her car, according to the statement of charges.

The woman chased Montgomery and was able to tackle him, but he got into her car and started it. The victim then tried to get her keys from the ignition. When he placed the car in reverse, the woman fell to the ground, suffering a laceration on her leg from car door, according to the statement of charges. She also sustained scrapes to her hands and knees.

Montgomery allegedly continued to back up the car, hitting a parked vehicle, before driving off, according to the statement of charges.

The victim, who told police she had never seen Montgomery before, was treated at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, receiving 11 stitches to her leg.

Shortly after the carjacking, Harford County Sheriff's deputies received a call for a suicidal missing person, as Montgomery's mother reported her son as suicidal and fleeing their home.

The victim positively identified Montgomery from a photograph, according to the statement of charges.

On Monday, Maryland State Police received calls about a robbery at the Wawa in the 700 block of Baltimore Pike.

A 22-year-old man there said that while he was pumping gas, another man got out of a Toyota Corolla, walked up to him and asked if he had a dollar.

When the victim pulled out his wallet, the man shoved him, causing him to trip over the gas hose and fall.

The attacker then grabbed the victim's wallet and ran back toward the Corolla.

The victim chased him and ultimately grabbed his wallet back. The man then sped away as the victim kicked the side of his car.

The victim identified the suspect as Montgomery after the Harford County Sheriff's Office contacted Maryland State Police about the previous carjacking, according to the statement of charges.

During Montgomery's bail review hearing Wednesday afternoon in Harford County District Court, Judge Susan Hazlett ordered that he continue to be held without bail in the carjacking case, citing the injuries to the victim and on $200,000 bail in the attempted robbery.

Public defender Bruce Andres told the judge Montgomery lives with his mother and has been in Harford County his entire life.

Assistant State's Attorney Kemba Lydia-Moore said Montgomery has 11 prior failures to appear in court and 10 convictions for crimes that include burglary.
