John Archer student, 10, dies of cardiac arrest Tuesday

A 10-year-old student at the special-education John Archer School in Bel Air died Tuesday after being rushed to a hospital in cardiac arrest, the Harford County Sheriff's Office reported.

The student, who has "several known medical conditions," was taken by ambulance to Upper Chesapeake Hospital at about 11:25 a.m., Sheriff's Office spokesman Edward Hopkins said.

Resuscitation efforts were not successful and the child was pronounced dead at 12:20 p.m., Hopkins said.

There were no suspicious circumstances, he said.

"The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was notified and will make any determination as to whether or not a post-mortem examination will be conducted," he said.

Harford County Public Schools spokeswoman Teri Kranefeld did not comment except to confirm the student was taken to the hospital.
