Bel Air officials welcomed two new businesses to town earlier this week and lauded the turnout for the recent authors and artists holiday gift sale.

Town commissioners and staff held a work session last Tuesday in preparation for the next town meeting which will be this Monday, Dec. 17, at 7:30 in town hall.

The new businesses that recently opened are Kirkland's, a home décor and gifts retailer in Bel Air Plaza on Baltimore Pike, and Bird's Nest Barbeque in the 300 block of South Main Street.

Several commissioners said they stopped by the first Authors and Artists Holiday Gift Sale, held on the afternoon of Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Bel Air Reckord Armory.

Commissioner Susan Burdette said there was an excellent turnout and may of the exhibitors she talked with seemed pleased with the response. Burdette and others who stopped by also complimented the photographs that were displayed by Laura Stafford of the town staff.

Burdette said all the exhibit space inside the armory was full and it's likely the sale will become an annual event as planned.

The commissioners have a light agenda for the town meeting this Monday. Following the meeting there will be a reception for Town Administrator Joyce Oliver, who is retiring at the end of the month after 28 years.
