Bel Air man dies from injuries after being hit by car Wednesday

A Bel Air man who was struck by a vehicle while walking his dog LAST Wednesday evening has died from his injuries.

The passing of John Kostinko, 69, a resident of the Homestead Village neighborhood, was reported on the Bel Air Police Department's Facebook page Friday.

Bel Air Police said Mr. Kostinko was walking along Linwood Avenue around 5:15 p.m. last Wednesday when he was hit by a 1998 Chevrolet driven by Elizabeth Kregel, 46, of Bel Air.

Bel Air police officers, along with EMS personnel from the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company, responded to the scene, and Mr. Kostinko was flown by Maryland State Police Medevac to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

Police said there are no sidewalks in the area of Linwood Avenue where the accident happened.

Det. Sgt. Jim Lockard said via e-mail Friday that members of the Harford County Sheriff's Office Traffic Unit are investigating the accident, and any charges would be issued after a review of the case by the Harford State's Attorney's Office.
