Huskies win in eight
The Patterson Mill Huskies baseball fell behind visiting River Hill, 6-0, in the top of the first inning Friday, but scratched away over the next eight innings to walk away with an 8-7, eight-inning win.
Sloppy play in the field, including two costly errors, a hit batter and three walks, led to the big River Hill inning.
The Huskies started to chip away in the third when Zach Dorn scored on a productive out by Tyler Spencer to make it 6-1. The Huskies got three more runs in the fourth inning, all with two outs. JT Tipton hit an RBI single, followed by Dorn's RBI double. Spencer singled in Dorn, but the inning ended with a Patterson Mill runner getting thrown out at the plate.
River Hill's insurance run came across in the top of the sixth, courtesy of the Huskies third and final error.
Trailing 7-4 in the bottom of the seventh, the Huskies scored one run on one of River Hill's five errors and Griffin Marge then delivered the game tying two-run single.
In the eighth, River Hill went down in order and Patterson Mill loaded the bases and pushed across the winning run when Tipton drew a bases-loaded walk.
"Very proud of the guys who could have packed it in early, they continued to fight for seven innings and in this case eight and that's why we have had success," Huskies head coach Matt Roseland said.
Tipton was 3-for-4, with two runs scored, two walks and two RBIs, while Dorn went 2-for-5 with three runs and an RBI. Marge and Spencer each had one hit with two RBIs.
