Accidental shooting at Darlington home ends in death of 33-year-old man

A 33-year-old man was accidentally shot and killed Saturday afternoon in Darlington, the Harford County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies were called to a home in the 3700 block of Berkley Road in Darlington around 1 p.m. for a report of a shooting.

When they arrived, they found Ronald Metzger lying in a garage with a gunshot wound to the torso, according to Kyle Andersen, spokesperson for the sheriff's office.

Investigators determined Metzger, who lived at the house, was showing a shotgun to a friend. The friend was holding the gun when it accidentally went off and hit Metzger, according to a news release.

Emergency medical personnel took Mr. Metzger to University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Metzger's body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

The sheriff's office criminal investigation division is investigating; no further details are available.
