Myth 1: County officials were caught off guard by the proposed Bel Air - Plumtree Walmart
Fact: There has been talk in the Bel Air South community since spring 2011 that Walmart was considering moving from its existing Constant Friendship location, but county zoning officials tried to downplay any such notion during a Master Plan review and update at the time. Although several Harford County Council members have said they were unaware what Walmart was planning until this past summer, the majority of them voted three times between 2005 and 2009 to rezone the Plumtree Road property B3, which effectively opened the door for Walmart or some other big box retailer to locate there.
