Bel Air edges John Carroll; North Harford comes up short in softball

A day after picking up its first UCBAC Chesapeake Division softball win, North Harford ventured back on the field Thursday looking for win number two.

The Hawks, (1-5, 3-8) however, visited Perryville (4-3, 7-4) and the Panthers dealt the Hawks a 9-4 loss.

Ada Heinze roped a two-out triple in the first inning, but the Hawks could not score.

The Panthers, though, used one out singles from Erin Murphy and Ashley Meekins to set the table for Nicole DiGiambattista, who drove both players home with a two-out single.

North Harford scored in the third, taking advantage of three Perryville errors. Kaylin Bordenski, who reached on the first error, scored the run.

In the bottom half of the third, Perryville took control, scoring seven runs off five hits and four North Harford errors. Meekins tripled in the first run and scored the second on Mara Little's RBIs single.

Kadi Davis also had an RBI single in the inning, as did Brooke Reynolds. Amber Keene drove in two with a single.

The Hawks added two runs in the sixth. Madisyn Greaver (fielder's choice) and Lila Murray (reached on error) were both driven home on Kaylin Johnson's single. Bordenski followed with a single, but the Hawks couldn't score.

The Hawks did score another run in the seventh. Kristin Stiles, who had two hits, hit a leadoff single. Hannah Garrett singled her to third and she scored from there on a wild pitch.

Allison Hall started and took the loss for the Hawks. Greaver added scoreless relief.

Emily Phillips pitched the complete game for the win.
