Aberdeen, CMW girls head for showdown after Monday basketball wins

Tuning up for today’s (Tuesday) big girls basketball game, Aberdeen (12-0) and C. Milton Wright (10-2) both improved to 5-0 in UCBAC Chesapeake Division play Monday with lopsided wins.

Aberdeen won at Elkton (1-3, 6-3), 55-39, while CMW beat visiting Harford Tech (1-3, 3-7), 50-21.

Aberdeen will play at CMW this evening at 5:15 p.m.

At CMW, the Mustangs trailed Tech early, 3-2, but the Mustangs scored the next 11 points and the Cobras didn’t score. CMW led 13-3 after one quarter.

The score was 17-9 in the second quarter when the Mustangs went on another run. 13 straight points led to a commanding 30-9 halftime lead. Taylor Marchetti and Courtney Frank sank back-to-back three’s to start the run and Moriah Snyder tossed in another three at the buzzer. Snyder led all scorers with 19 points.

Sydney Frank (12 points) added two, three-point baskets in the third quarter, helping the Mustangs to an 41-15 lead through three quarters.

Freshman Courtney Logan sank a pair of three-pointers for Tech in the fourth quarter. She finished with a team-high 10 points.

Aberdeen used its pressing defense to force turnovers and produce easy points.

Jae DeVeaux led the scoring with 21 points. Anija Stancell added 10 and Asha Thomas scored nine.

Mariners beat Indians

Joppatowne (5-0, 8-1) leads the Susquehanna Division after its 55-35 win over visiting North East (2-2, 3-6) on Monday.

NaTori Blackman led the win with 18 points and Shawkina Mulazim added 17.

Warriors beat Rams

Havre de Grace (2-3, 2-8) won its second straight Susquehanna Division game Monday, winning at Edgewood (0-5, 0-10), 37-32.

In the loss, Riley Johnson scored 12 points for the Rams and Jazmyne Drakes added eight.

Havre de Grace stats were not provided.

Bobcats lose

Bel Air (6-7) hosted Good Counsel in non-league action Monday and lost, 71-43.

Grace Wehland led the Bobcats with 12 points. Bel Air trailed at half, 32-18.

Eagles beat Cougars

The Eagles won at home Friday, an 62-24 Chesapeake win over Fallston (1-3, 4-7).

Anija Stancell led the winners with 16 points, while Zakeya Jones scored nine.

A day earlier, Aberdeen traveled to Bel Air to beat the Bobcats, 44-34, in Chesapeake play.

Jae DeVeaux scored 16 points for the Eagles and Briana Gibson added eight points. Stancell finished with nine points.

Bailey Springer and Elizabeth Hillman scored 12 points each to lead Bel Air.

Mustangs beat Elks

C. Milton Wright stayed even with Aberdeen in Chesapeake standings with an 45-36 win at Elkton on Friday.

Sydney Frank led the scoring with 13 points, while both Moriah Snyder and Sydney Bukowski added 11 points each. Aubrey Hoover and Taylor Marchetti had six points apiece.

Mariners beat Hawks

Joppatowne leads the Susquehanna Division standings after its 47-31 division win at North Harford (3-1, 3-6) on Friday.

Taylor Jones led the Mariners with 14 points and NaTori Blackman added 12 points in the win.

The Hawks kept the game close through three quarters, trailing 29-24. The Mariners pulled away with an 18-7 advantage in the fourth quarter.

Junior Jessica Smith led scoring for the Hawks with 15 points.

Huskies upset Bobcats

Patterson Mill (1-4, 2-9) hosted and beat Bel Air (2-3, 6-6), 38-29, Friday in Chesapeake play.

Delaney Madsen led the Huskies with 15 points and Mikaela Troung chipped in with 13 points.

Olivia Simon led the Bobcats scoring with nine points. Bel Air trailed at the half, 19-18.

Panthers beat Rams

Edgewood (0-4, 0-9) is still looking for a win after losing, 40-34, Friday to visiting Perryville (1-2, 1-4) in Susquehanna Division play.

Skylar Lewis scored 15 points to pace the Rams. Jazmyne Drakes added eight points and Riley Johnson scored seven.

HCS loses

Harford Christian (1-4) lost at Frederick Christian, 46-28, Friday.

Alex Lewis led the Eagles with a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds. Abby Coomes added five points.

Thursday scores

North Harford edged visiting Perryville, 36-35, in Susquehanna play.

Juniors Smith and Autumn Susa led scoring for the Hawks with nine points apiece. Susa also scored the game-winning basket. Junior Cameron Sawyer added seven points and junior Alison Bufano scored five.

Havre de Grace (1-3, 1-8) won its first Susquehanna game, beating visiting Rising Sun (0-3, 2-4), 44-42. Stats were not provided.

Also, Patterson Mill lost to visiting Elkton, 42-33, in Chesapeake play.
