Two years ago the Bel Air golf team fell into the UCBAC’s Susquehanna Division after a three-year championship run in the Chesapeake Division.
Tuesday, the Bobcats assured themselves a spot back in the Chesapeake by winning the Susquehanna Division Tournament contested at Patriots Glen Golf Course in Elkton.
The Bobcats shot 219, their low score of the season, to easily beat North East and Rising Sun. Both shot 265.
Elkton has just two players and shot 118 and Edgewood had one player who shot 68.
Leading Bel Air was male champion Josh Stocum, who carded a 40. Olivia McPhee, a first year player and senior, shot 47 to claim the female title.
Others contributing to the Bobcats scoring were Drew Johnson, 42; and senior captain Ryan Menchen kept steady with a 43. Jared Clelland's 45 and freshman Sam Kim's 49 helped keep the team scores all in the 40's.
“On a golf course that is sometimes a challenge and test of patience, the Bobcats made a statement with their overall best team score of the season,” Bobcats coach Ryan Doyle said.
The Chesapeake Division championship is set for this afternoon at Bulle Rock Golf Course in Havre de Grace. Play is set to begin at 2 p.m.
