Thanks to Level VFC and first responders everywhere [Letter]

Editor:

What a privilege it was to take my granddaughter, grandson, daughter and son-in-law to the open house at the Level Volunteer Fire Company on Sunday, Oct. 1.

The weather was beautiful, all the children had smiles on their faces, the fire engine rides, goodie bags, tattoos, spraying the fire hose, the moon jump, and delicious free food provided by the hard working Ladies Auxiliary of the Fire Company.

I had a chance to see two of my good friends and high school classmates(Larry Mabe and Herman "Buddy' Schweers), both stalwarts of the community with their years of hard work and volunteer services.

What a thrill it was to have Buddy drive the fire engine with me in the front seat (sounding off the sirens and the horn), for my first ride ever in a fire engine (he has been driving them for 44 years).

These first responders (men and women), firefighters, police officers and of course veterans of any of our wars deserve all our respect, and I want all of them to know they are very much appreciated. We have no idea what stresses and life risks they take every day just to make our lives safer.
