Cal Ripken Jr. sends letter to the editor calling decision to stop hosting world series 'difficult'

I look back on those years with great fondness

The following letter was sent Wednesday to the editors of The Aegis and The Record newspapers in Harford County:

To the Editor:

For the last 13 years we have enjoyed hosting the annual Cal Ripken World Series in our hometown of Aberdeen. Although we had to make the difficult decision to no longer host the event for a number of reasons I look back on those years with great fondness.

The support that the World Series received from our community was remarkable and it became a great gathering point for the community each summer. The experience that we provided the young ballplayers from all around the world is something that Harford County should be proud of.

I want to thank everyone who helped make the World Series such a fantastic event. The volunteers and host families committed themselves to this event and the kids from around the world each and every year and we simply could not have done it without you.

Harford County is home and we are excited about the continued growth of Ripken Baseball in Aberdeen and around the country.

Sincerely,

Cal Ripken, Jr.
