Just as sure as summer will soon arrive, with it will come street paving jobs, and the Town of Bel Air has seven planned this year.
The town's 2014 repaving list includes Edgehill Drive, Edgehill Court, Harlan Street, Francis Avenue, Faulkner Court, Orley Place and East Broadway between McCormick Street and Shamrock Road, Public Works Director Randy Robertson said.
At their meeting Monday night, members of the Board of Town Commissioners approved a $247,100 contract with Frank J. Goettner Construction Company of Kingsville to do the paving, which Robertson said amounts to laying down 138,000 square feet of blacktop.
The schedule for when the work will be done will be worked out now that the contractor has been selected, Robertson said.
Robertson said Goettner was one of three firms that picked up bid proposals, but the only one to submit a bid. He said the bid was within the $253,000 budgeted for the project.
At the previous town meeting on May 27, the commissioners awarded a $109,000 contract to Santos Construction of Bowie for the construction of 17 handicapped ramps and infill sidewalks in areas where the repaving will be done.
Robertson noted the town has been coordinating the ramp work with street paving for several years to the point where it has become "really ingrained in our street reconstruction budget."
Santos submitted the lowest of three bids for the ramp and sidewalk work.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
