Bel Air High begins 200th year celebration with athletics weekend Oct. 7-8

Big weekend coming for Bel Air High sports

Big things are happening at Bel Air High School next week.

To commemorate the bicentennial anniversary of the founding Bel Air Academy, which became Bel Air High School, a series of events and celebrations are scheduled throughout the 2016-17 school year, the first of which will be on Oct. 7 and 8 with several home games that will showcase the Bobcats' athletic teams.

On Friday, Oct.7, the school will be highlighting its junior varsity teams with three games in Bobcat Stadium: JV girls' soccer vs. Patterson Mill at 3:30 p.m.; JV boys' soccer vs. Fallston at 5:15 p.m.; and JV football vs C. Milton Wright at 7:30 p.m. Beginning at 4:45 p.m. that day, spectators will be charged $5 for the games.

On Saturday, Oct. 8, the Bobcats athletic program has an entire day of contests slated to take place in the gymnasium and in Bobcat Stadium.

JV field hockey vs. North Harford will get the day started in Bobcat Stadium at 10 a.m.; at 10:30 a.m., varsity girls' volleyball vs. John Carroll will begin in the gymnasium.

At 11:30 a.m., varsity field hockey vs. North Harford will take over Bobcat Stadium, while back inside the gymnasium at noon, varsity boys' volleyball will battle John Carroll. The boys and girls volleyball games will be free.

Back in the stadium, varsity boys' soccer vs. Fallston will begin at 1:30 p.m., followed by varsity girls' soccer vs. Patterson Mill at 3:30 p.m.

Following the varsity girls' soccer game, the stadium will be cleared of all spectators to prepare for the weekend's final event, the varsity football game against crosstown rival C. Milton Wright.

Only spectators with blue wristbands will be admitted back into Bobcat Stadium for the varsity football game. Spectators can pay for a $10 blue band, of which 2,000 were made available. Once they are sold, no more will be made available. This blue wristband will allow all fans entrance to all games played in Bobcat Stadium on Oct. 8.

Spectators can also pay $5 for a red wristband, which will allow fans to gain entrance to the Oct. 8 stadium games from 9:30 a.m. to the end of the varsity girls' soccer game (approximate end time of 5:30 p.m.) The red wristband will not allow fans to get into the varsity football game.

Student and parent game passes will not be accepted for any game on Oct. 8, according to the school. Seniors citizens, HCPS badges and MPSSAA coach passes will all be accepted, under certain guidelines. Those individuals will need to also get a wristband (free of charge).

The remaining days to purchase wristbands are Friday, Sept. 30, 3 to 4 p.m. in the front lobby of Bel Air High School; Monday, Oct. 3, 8 to 10 a.m. at Bobcat Stadium ticket booth; and Wednesday, Oct. 5, 4:45 to 7:30 p.m. at the ticket booth.
