Abingdon man pleads guilty to sex offense

An Abingdon man pleaded guilty last month to a sex offense, according to court records.

David Rienas, who was born in 1970 and lives in the 4000 block of Birch Avenue, pleaded guilty to filming in a private place with prurient interest.

The state declined to prosecute charges of sexually abusing a minor and being a peeping tom that were filed in connection with the same incident, according to court records.

Rienas was sentenced to a year in jail, with six months suspended, resulting in six months of actual jail time, according to the state's online court database.

In February, Rienas filed an unrelated civil suit in U.S. District Court against Trio Happiness S.A., for $5.2 million, according to The Baltimore Sun.

He was allegedly seriously injured when a tanker missed a turn in Curtis Bay and hit him while he was making repairs on top of a ladder in the Bayside Coal Pier.

Rienas was the only person injured in that incident, according to The Baltimore Sun. The suit is pending.
