Three men were arrested last week after they allegedly solicited sex from an undercover police officer during a daytime sting operation in Belcamp.

The Harford County Sheriff's Office ran the operation Friday in the area of the 1300 block of Riverside Parkway, where there is a concentration of hotels. The sting was conducted to target prostitution and drug and human trafficking, Cristie Kahler, spokesperson for the sheriff's office, wrote in an email Tuesday.

Supervised by the Special Investigation Division/Criminal Intelligence-Homeland Defense Unit of the sheriff's office, female deputies posed as prostitutes and were contacted and solicited "for the purpose of prostitution," Kahler said.

"This was a proactive attempt to counter illegal prostitution and related criminal activity and gather intelligence concerning the growing problem of human sex trade trafficking," Kahler wrote. Sting operations like the one Friday are done two to four times a year, she said.

Arrested were: Daniel John Romano, 35, of the 200 block of Jessup Mill Road in Clarksboro, N.J., and Robert Frederick Hartmann, 45, of the 100 block of Brotherton Court in Havre de Grace, who were charged Friday with prostitution; and Mark Lawrence Kassouf, 37, of the first block of Shady Brook Court in Lutherville, who was charged Friday with prostitution and drug possession other than marijuana. All three were taken to Harford County Detention Center and released on their own recognizance.

Deputies also seized Two smartphones, two grams of suspected methamphetamine and $1,062 in cash, according to charging documents.
