The Harford Community College women's basketball team (8-1) continued to roll through its non-conference schedule with an 86-56 victory over visiting Penn State-York on Monday. The Fighting Owls led by 15 at the break and used a late 22-3 run to put the game completely out of reach.

Capree Garner led all scorers with 30 points on 11-of-19 shooting. She added five assists and five steals in the win. Dasha Moore and Ashley Smith also reached double figures with 20 and 11 points, respectively. Both freshmen had seven rebounds, while Smith added six assists and steals for Harford.

Toineisha Nightingale scored nine points, while Connor Hanley (Bel Air) netted eight off the bench for the Fighting Owl forwards.

Harford bounced back from its loss at Chesapeake with an impressive victory at home last Friday. The Fighting Owls topped Southern Maryland, 99-52.

Garner continued her torrid scoring pace with a 39-point effort. The nation's leading scorer shot 15-for-21 from the floor while pulling in 12 rebounds in the win.

Smith chipped in with 22 points and eight assists while Monique Cheek scored 12 in her first career start.

Harford travels to Frederick on Wednesday.

HCC men lose two

The Harford men's basketball team (2-7) dropped a 99-93 decision to Penn State-York at home on Monday. The Fighting Owls fought back from double-digit deficits, but could not take the lead late.

Chidozie Omile led Harford with 17 points off the bench, including four-of-five from behind the arc. Davonte Williams chipped in with 16 points and a team-best six rebounds in the loss.

Byron Hawkes added 15 points, five rebounds and four helpers while Shendell Chase (Joppatowne) netted 10 points in the second half.

The Fighting Owls also lost last Friday, 77-74, to visiting Southern Maryland when a last-second triple by Omile fell short.

The Fighting Owls committed 27 turnovers and both teams committed 29 fouls in a sloppy basketball game. Harford fought to the final whistle, twice erasing a 10-point deficit to earn the final shot.

Omile finished with 23 points and eight rebounds while Chase added 16 points and eight boards. Robert Konteh chipped in with eight points and 10 rebounds.

Harford plays at Frederick on Wednesday.
