Harford Tech, Bel Air, Perryville move on in girls volleyball playoffs

Girls volleyball teams were back on the courts Monday, when region playoffs continued at the section semifinal round in respective brackets. Harford Tech, Bel Air and Perryville were among the winners and each will be back in action Wednesday.

Cobras take down Cougars

Harford Tech (11-5) knocked off visiting Fallston (12-6), 3-2, in Class 2A East, Section II play. Fallston won the first set, 25-12, but Tech won the next two, 25-15 and 25-20. Fallston knotted the match 2-2 with a 25-14 win in set four, but the Cobras earned the win with a 15-12 win in set five.

Leading the Cobras were Alyssa Hockaday, seven aces, one kill and two blocks; Karizma Hockaday, four kills; Jamie Tubao, three kills and six assists; Jenna Hathazi, three aces, two kills and six assists; Amber Olson, two kills and two blocks; and Sydney Tudor, two kills and two blocks.

Anna Holehouse led the Cougars with three kills and eight digs and Emily Mozal put up 13 assists.

Bobcats beat Rams

Bel Air (13-2) beat visiting Edgewood (4-13), 3-0, in Class 3A North, Section II action. The scores were 25-14, 25-7 and 25-22.

Shannon Bowman, Cassie Rogers and Liz Padin led the Edgewood defense with great passing and Breanna Barber led the offense with two aces and two kills, according to Rams Head Coach Sarah Friedman. Alexis McCoy added two kills. Friedman also noted an outstanding effort was put forth by all members of the Edgewood volleyball team.

No stats were provided by Bel Air.

Panthers eliminate Mariners

Perryville beat visiting Joppatowne, 3-0, Monday in Class 1A East, Section I play. The scores were 25-13, 25-10 and 25-5.

Leading the Panthers (14-3) were Morgan Tennant, 10 assists, seven service points, five kills and two digs; Emily Merklinger, seven kills, six aces and two blocks; Teri Wennersten, 10 service points and six aces; and Kylie Shiflett, 16 service points, six aces and two digs.

Joppatowne ends the season at 0-16.

Cougars beat Elks

Fallston (12-5) rolled over host Elkton, 3-0, winning by scores of 25-20, 25-21 and 25-9 in Class 2A, Section I play.

The Cougars were led by Lizeta Argiropolus with nine kills and Campbell Brady with four. Emily Mozal put up 19 assists, while Anna Holehouse contributed six digs and eight aces.

Rams sweep Owls

Edgewood's 3-0 win came over visiting Dundalk in 3A North, Section II play. The scores were 25-9, 25-12 and 25-14.

Leading the Rams (4-12) were Kelsey Swann, two aces and eight assists; Alexis McCoy, three aces and one kill; and Breanna Barber, four aces and four kills.

The Rams also received outstanding defense from Shannon Bowman and the rest of the Edgewood team, according to head coach Sarah Friedman.

Other scores

Also Friday, Patterson Mill advanced in 2A, Section I play, beating North East, 3-1. In 3A, Section II action, C. Milton Wright was a 3-1 winner over North Harford and Aberdeen was a 3-0 winner over Patapsco. No further details were provided.
