The Bel Air girls soccer team won the Class 3A North Region championship Tuesday night, beating host Westminster, 1-0, on a second half goal. Fallston and Havre de Grace, meanwhile, both lost in their respective region finals.

The Bobcats (15-2-1) goal came with seven minutes left in the second half, which was dominated by Bel Air.

The Bobcats were awarded a direct kick from 25 yards out as a result of a foul. Jordan Layfeld took the kick, driving the ball off the crossbar. The ball deflected off the bar to the foot of Kayla Klock. Klock sent the ball over to Natalie Decker, who scored the winning goal.

Bel Air goalie Andrea Sipos was credited with four saves.

Bel Air will play Huntingtown in a state semifinal Saturday at CCBC-Essex. The start time for the game was not known as of Tuesday night.

Tuesday's victory was Bel Air's sixth region crown and first since 2010.

Parkside beats Fallston

Parkside ended Fallston's bid for a second straight region crown, shutting out the Cougars, 2-0, to take the Class 2A East Region title. The game was played on the turf at Bel Air.

The game was scoreless well into the second half before Parkside took advantage of a set play from 30-yards out with 5 minutes left. The ball was looped in and put away for the 1-0 lead.

Fallston, which outshot Parkside, 15-7, moved everyone up looking for an equalizer, and Parkside pushed across another goal with 25 seconds left.

The Cougars finished their season with a 9-8 record.

Mavericks blank Warriors

Havre de Grace's bid to win the Class 1A South Region came to an end against visiting two-time defending state champion Manchester Valley. The visiting Mavericks scored a pair of first half goals and made them stand up in a 2-0 win.

The game's first goal came just 4:25 into play when freshman striker Rayna Deltuva beat two Havre de Grace defenders to the ball about 20 yards out from the goal. Deltuva split the two defenders entering the box and with Warriors' senior goalie Riley Arnold coming off her line to cut down the shooting angle, Deltuva was able to get an uncontested shot up and past Arnold.

Havre de Grace's scoring chances were truly limited with the first coming with 12 minutes left in the first half. Sophomore Lauren Herrington took a ball into the right corner and hit a low cross back toward the goal. Mavericks junior goalie Taylor Carhart made the save as Havre de Grace sophomore Frankie Reeling collided with her.

It appeared the game was going to the half 1-0, but with :42 left, Manchester Valley struck again. Junior midfielder Alex Morris found herself alone at the 18-yard line. She turned and put a left-foot shot that never left the ground past the diving Arnold.

Havre de Grace's only other true scoring chance came late in the second half with Herrington lifting a high shot from 30 yards out that Carhart saved. Carhart finished with two saves.

Havre de Grace goalie Arnold finished a busy game with 15 saves. The Warriors, whose only region title came in 1998, end the year 5-8.
