Seven people displaced after coffee maker causes fire in Edgewood

A fire in Edgewood displaced seven people Monday morning and caused $50,000 in damage, according to a report by the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

The fire, caused by a mechanical failure in a coffee maker, broke out at 11:25 a.m. in the 2000 block of Rosewood Drive, according to Fire Marshal's Office's notice of investigation.

No one was injured, but the four adults and three children living in the dwelling were displaced, according to the Fire Marshal's Office. About 50 firefighters took 10 minutes to control the blaze, which was contained to the home's basement.

Firefighters from Abingdon, Joppa-Magnolia and Bel Air volunteer fire companies and Aberdeen Proving Ground Fire Department responded.

The Fire Marshal's Office estimates the damage to the structure at $25,000 and damage to contents also at $25,000.
