Edgewood man charged on Valentine's Day with assaulting girlfriend

An Edgewood man was charged with assaulting his girlfriend Valentine's Day morning, according to Edward Hopkins, spokesperson for the Harford County Sheriff's Office.

Anthony Leon Baldwin, 50, of the 700 block of Cedar Crest Court in Edgewood, was charged with assault following a domestic dispute with his girlfriend early Friday, Hopkins said.

Officers responded to the residence around 12:03 a.m. for a call for a fight, Hopkins said.

According to Hopkins, the couple had been arguing all day on Thursday. The girlfriend, 45, told police the argument escalated to her allegedly being physically assaulted by Baldwin.

The woman told investigators she grabbed a kitchen knife to defend herself, Hopkins said. Baldwin suffered from a laceration to his forearm and head. The woman's face appeared to be swollen, Hopkins said.

An investigation determined Baldwin was the primary aggressor. He was arrested and charged with assault, Hopkins said.

The woman was taken to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center for treatment of her injuries.

Baldwin, who refused medical treatment, was taken to the Harford County Detention Center, where he was released on his own recognizance after being seen by the Harford County District Court Commissioner, according to Hopkins.
