An Abingdon man allegedly threatened an acquaintance with a knife and shotgun, an Edgewood man allegedly threatened his son with a hammer and an Aberdeen man is accused of sexually assaulting a woman in a motel over the recent holiday season, according to Harford County police charging documents.

Hammer threat

Samuel Whitfield, 55, of the 700 block of Woodbridge Center Way in Edgewood, was arrested for allegedly threatening his son with a hammer on Christmas Eve at his home, according to charging documents.

The victim told police he confronted Whitfield about stealing a Kindle electronic book. After an argument, Whitfield became very upset, grabbed a hammer and began chasing the victim with it, threatening to kill him, according to the statement of charges.

Whitfield's niece told police she heard Whitfield allegedly threaten to kill his son with the hammer on multiple occasions, according to the statement of charges.

Whitfield was charged in a criminal summons with first-degree assault, second-degree assault and having a dangerous weapon with intent to injure.

Knife, shotgun threat

James Miller Dollarhide Jr., 47, of Pulaski Highway in Abingdon, was accused of threatening an acquaintance with a knife and shotgun on Dec. 30, according to charging documents.

The victim and Dollarhide both lived at Ten Oaks Motel in the 3900 block of Pulaski Highway, Harford County Sheriff's Office spokesman Edward Hopkins said.

The victim was collecting recyclables for money and did not realize he had taken Dollarhide's collection, Hopkins said.

"He went to apologize to Dollarhide[,] who met him at the door with a shotgun and threatened him," Hopkins said. "Dollarhide then went back in his room and got a knife instead and threatened him again."

Dollarhide was charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, having a firearm possession with a felony conviction, illegally possessing a regulated firearm and having a dangerous weapon with intent to injure.

He was ordered held on $100,000 bond during a bail review on Thursday and remained in jail as of Tuesday afternoon.

Sexual assault

Marshal Kane West, 57, of the 1400 block of South Philadelphia Boulevard in Aberdeen, was accused of sexually assaulting a woman at Holly Hill Motel on Jan. 5, according to a statement of charges.

The 26-year-old woman told police that West, who lives directly behind the motel in a railer, kept knocking on her door and window, according to the statement.

She said West eventually allegedly forced his way in, hit her and tried to have sex with her.

The victim was taken to Harford Memorial Hospital in Havre de Grace for evaluation, according to the statement.

West was charged with first-degree sex offense, attempted first-degree rape, fourth-degree sex offense and first-degree burglary.

He was ordered held without bond Monday during a bail review and remained in jail Tuesday.
