After the opening ceremonies at 6 p.m., the survivors took to the track. Caregivers completed their lap and then the 40 teams joined in. In all, there were 520 participants. While the teams were starting their laps, the survivors enjoyed a reception hosted by Union Hospital. Some teams sold food, some held raffles. Our team, "Bethany's Angels," sold tickets on a Disney Movie Night Basket and then sponsored a basket and bag bingo in the high school cafeteria. Our team finished in sixth place out of the 40 teams after raising $6,000. The amount raised for the American Cancer Society by all the teams totaled more than $108,000. The committee, the team captains and the participants took a phrase from Walt Disney, "Sometimes it's fun to do the impossible" and brought Disney's dreams to life at Elkton High School last weekend.
