Port Deposit Heritage Corp. elects new officers for 2014

The Port Deposit Heritage Corporation held its annual general meeting April 24 and the following officers were elected for 2014-2015: Judy Leonard as president, Rev. George Hipkins as vice president, Patsy Grace as treasurer and I as secretary. The following directors were elected as well: Glen Longacre, Beverly Narvell, John Leeds, Evelyn Jordan, Maggie Jackson, George Maldeis, Monolyn Gaddy and Lois Ashworth. Congrats to all!

Longaberger consultant Anne Gibson of Port Deposit, along with Maggie Jackson, also of Port Deposit, and Stephanie Gibson of Conowingo attended this year's Collector's Club "Gathering" at the Homestead in Frazeyburg, Ohio, last weekend.

Adele Shannon Purdy, formerly of Port Deposit, enjoyed birthday greetings on April 26.

And former resident Terra Fitt Booke celebrated her big day on April 27.

Congratulations to Terri and Luke Yackley of Carpenter's Point as they celebrated their wedding anniversary on April 27.

Tuesday, April 29 was a banner day for Sherry Franks, Karyn Cook, Patsy Bennett, Lewis Collins III, Heather Bierly and Erika Quesenbery Sturgill. Best to all!

David Barr, Dwayne Duff and Cindy Bare were wished a happy birthday on April 30. And J.C. McCall and Tyler McCall of Conowingo blew out 17 candles on May 1.

Happy anniversary to Deanna and Gary Tennis of Port and to Bonnie and Rusty Eastridge of Colora, as they all celebrated on May 2.

Reserve your tickets for the Kentucky Derby party, sponsored by the Port Deposit Chamber of Commerce Arts Committee. The event will be held at the Carriage House, 80 S. There will be a "pretty hat" contest for ladies and gentlemen with prizes. Proceeds will benefit the chamber's restoration project in town square. Plan to be there!

Cecil County Relay for Life Team "Cruisin for a Cure" will sponsor a yard sale on Saturday at 134 Hearth Stone Drive, off of Whitehall Road, Elkton. Remember, one person's junk is another person's treasure.

A spring rabies clinic will be held at the Woodlawn Station of Water Witch Fire Company Saturday. Bring cats and ferrets from 9 to 10 a.m. and dogs from 10 a.m. to noon. The fire house is off Tome Highway and Abrahams Road.

Good Shepherd School, 800 Aiken Ave., Perryville, will sponsor its monthly breakfast on Sunday from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

Coming up next week will be this year's Firemen's Carnival on the grounds of the Water Witch Fire Company off Tome Highway at Abrahams Road. The carnival opens on Tuesday, May 6 and runs through May 10. Advance ride tickets are on sale from fire company members. Plan to enjoy the fireworks on Friday, May 9.

Our Relay for Life fundraising bingo is set for Saturday, May 10 at Good Shepherd School, 800 Aiken Ave., Perryville. Call Anne, 410-378-3338, for reservations.

The next meeting of the Harford Cecil Volunteer Firemen's Association will be held on Friday, May 9 at the Have de Grace Ambulance Corps at 1601 Level Road, Havre de Grace. Members should bring their bingo tickets and raffle tickets to turn in at the meeting. Speaking of bingo tickets, a Basket and Bag Bingo fundraiser will be held on Saturday, May 17 at the Level Volunteer Fire Company, 3633 Level Village Road, Havre de Grace, to benefit this bi-county organization.

Tome's Landing Marina announced the date for this year's Demo Days: Saturday, May 17 and Sunday May 18 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Stop by and check out the new boats.

Get ready for the 8th Annual Rockfish Tournament sponsored by Exelon Power and the Port Deposit Chamber of Commerce. This event will be held at Marina Park on Saturday, June 7, starting at 5:30 a.m. Weigh-in begins at noon and continues until 4 p.m. Come to the captain's meeting on Friday, June 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Port Deposit VFW Post 8185, at 520 Susquehanna River Road.
