It's time to get cold to help Havre de Grace to keep from burning.

The third annual Susquehanna Hose Company Duck Dunk, a fundraising event with the look and feel of a Polar Bear Plunge, is planned for 8 to 10 a.m. this Saturday, Jan. 18, at the Havre de Grace Yacht Basin adjacent to Tydings Park.

People who want to participate can either sign up pledge donors for a total of $35 in donations or pay a $35 registration fee for the privilege of entering "the frigid waters of the Chesapeake Bay," as described by a news release from the Susquehanna Hose Company.

The National Weather Service forecast for the Havre de Grace area Saturday morning calls for party sunny skies and temperatures in the low 30s.

Dunkers must be 18 or older. Each participating dunker will receive a long-sleeved Duck Dunk shirt. Those who don't want to get wet but like the looks of the shirts can buy them to support the event, while supplies last.

Susquehanna Hose Company is planning to award prizes to the top three dunkers who raise the most money (so long as the total is more than $150).

Breakfast will be available for purchase at the site of the event.
