It's time to get ready for Christmas Street 2013 on Dec. 7 in Aberdeen. This wonderful tradition began in 1977.
All entries must be in to the committee no later than Nov. 28.
The next two weeks will be busy ones for everyone. We will just take this opportunity to give some of the guidelines for those participating in floats, walking groups and window decorating.
The theme this year is "Christmas Dreams." All floats can be pulled or self-propelled, and not more than 45 feet long. No candy or trinkets can be thrown from the float, or be blatantly commercial.
The Appearance and Preservation Committee will bring in Santa and Mrs. Claus, so no other Santa or Mrs. Claus may be in the parade. For further information, please contact Caroline, 410-272-5242, or Ruth, 410-272-7354.
All floats and walking groups must use the theme "Christmas Dreams." There will be cash prizes for floats and walking groups awarded to youth groups, adult groups and youth/adult combined of first, second and third places.
The parade will start promptly at 3 p.m. Line-up will begin at 2 p.m. in the area of St. Joan of Arc School. The parade starts on South Law Street, turns right on West Bel Air Avenue, left on Howard Street then disbands after passing Festival Park.
No political campaigning will be permitted.
Now, for window decorating. The deadline is Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 5 p.m. for windows to be registered. Again the theme is "Christmas Dreams."
Miniature white lights and natural looking artificial greens must be used in the windows. All window assignments must be made with the chairman. All windows must be completed by 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6 and will be judged at 6 p.m. that evening, all lighted!
A card large enough to be seen from the sidewalk should be placed in the window with the title. Your name should be folded back and not revealed until after judging.
Check your window from time to time to be sure the lighting system is working, and please leave your name and phone number with the merchant.
Windows will be judged in three categories: adult, youth or business. There will be three first place, three second place and three third place awards. Honorable mentions may also be awarded.
Awards will be announced at Festival Park after the parade.
